What do you feel when you're in the school library? Well, for me, seeing so many books around is kind of like my heaven, really, since I love to read. And this activity was all about books. Well, not really, it's mostly about creativity.
When the idea of making a book corner at a Manca at Cimanggis came from a friend of mine who goes to school in Global Jaya, I definitely said yes to do it. Me & my friends (Handreas from BIS, Sasha & Rasyadi from Global Jaya) who were once my schoolmates before I went to GMIS, decided that we should make the book corner at the Manca.
The Manca itself is a place where children around the area could meet there and read or even to study. It was actually like a public library, only smaller and the books there are mostly donated from people. The Manca is located in Cimanggis and it's a little bit (actually, it's very hard for me) to find. Whereas public libraries are located in cities, this particular Manca is located in the middle of a village. But of course, it's not that ancient where people farm and stuff.
Back to the activity, we planned what we were going to do first. We drew out pictures on a paper and we transferred it on the wall. After we drew it out on the wall, we then started to mix paints and painted the pictures. We did that for at least 4 days in which each day we could spent 3 hours just for painting. Although we were always tired at the end of the day, we had loads of fun and we were hoping to do something like this more often.
At the end, we were very amazed at the results (considering there are only 3 people who worked on this regularly, the other one was sick at home and couldn't join us). We did what we did for CAS. Not only it was fun, it was memorable. We get to know people there, played with the children, even get to socialize with them. Although some of them were not as fortunate as we do, we were very glad to know them because we know, we were doing something good for them and for ourselves.
